3D HD scanning of the collection of the Palais des Ducs de Lorraine

The project

Art Graphique & Patrimoine realized the digital double of the precious collection of the Palais des Ducs de Lorraine within the framework of the ambitious program of the city of Nancy for the museum’s modernization.

The establishment was the object of a global renewal project during the last years, going from the building’s renovation to the digitalisation of his works of art. The objective, far from being merely scientific, consists in the realization of a digital database with the works of art to use for the implementation of a last generation mediation system: a program which plans the realization of several multimedia digital devices to improve the accessibility and to enrich the educational offer of the Nancy’s Museum.

More than 180 works of art from the museum were scanning in 3D: the wooden bed of Antoine de Lorraine, the globes of Jean l’Hoste, the tapestries and the manuscripts, the medals and the seals, etc. Every object required a particular attention and a technique calibrated on the material of composition, the size and the state of conservation. A meticulous work conducted in two campaigns by AGP team combining laser scanning and photogrammetry, and treatment of models by our graphic designers.

The project, realized with the Historical Society of the Lorraine and the Lorrain Museum, was supported by the State and the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine Region.
